What is a Stroke

A stroke happens when the blood flow to a part of your brain is disrupted or reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients. This is a medical emergency, and immediate treatment is vital. Acting quickly can minimize brain damage and reduce the risk of complications.

There are two primary types of stroke:
Ischemic Stroke: This type accounts for about 87% of all strokes and occurs when a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain becomes blocked, often by a blood clot.

Haemorrhagic Stroke: This type occurs when a blood vessel in the brain leaks or bursts. Haemorrhagic strokes can result from conditions like high blood pressure, overuse of anticoagulant medications, or aneurysms, which are weakened areas in the blood vessel walls.
Another related condition is a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), commonly known as a mini-stroke.
